The boys were able to experience engineering, bricklaying and automotive workshops, gaining valuable hands-on experience and learning more about the skills and opportunities available in these industries.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore potential future careers in a practical and engaging way. The boys from Turves Green Boys’ School got a great deal out of the experience and represented the school exceptionally well throughout the day.

We are proud of the enthusiasm, behaviour and positive attitude shown by all the students who took part.

Upon arrival the cadets met up with other cadets from across the Matrix MAT and they were given the opportunity to board some of the static displays that are not usually open to the public. The Nimrod maritime aircraft being a highlight as the surveillance equipment was on full view. The World War 2 hangar and prototype hangar were particular favourites. It was a delight to see the cadets snapping away with some impressive cameras!

Needless to say, behaviour was exemplary and a credit to the school.

Year 10’s attended at least two colleges tasters sessions, the colleges arrange subject tasters and gave a tour of the provision to look at the facilities. The colleges also explained the range of qualifications and subjects Year 10’s can consider.

On the Thursday 8 employers came into school, including a tree surgeon, NHS radiographers, civil service, Edmund & Co.  Year 10’s in groups attended each session, introducing them to a range of pathways / careers they might not be aware of or thought about.

Careers finished with a mock interview, we had 15 volunteers from various industries who gave up their valuable time to give Year 10’s an interview and feedback. This is in preparation for Year 11 when they will be invited in by colleges, apprenticeship providers or employers for an interview.

The boys spent the day making lasting memories as they took on the park's thrilling rides, enjoying plenty of excitement, laughter and adrenaline-fuelled fun. From high-speed rollercoasters to a variety of other exciting rides, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Adding to the occasion, we were treated to glorious sunshine throughout the day, making it the perfect setting for a fantastic end-of-year celebration.

It was wonderful to see the pupils relaxing together, celebrating their achievements and reflecting on their time at Turves Green Boys' School. We wish all of our Year 11 pupils every success as they move on to the next stage of their education and look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments.

The day began with our journey to Wimbledon, where we joined thousands of tennis fans from around the world. As we entered the famous grounds, we immediately noticed the unique atmosphere, with beautifully maintained courts, colourful flower displays, and spectators enjoying the traditional Wimbledon experience of strawberries and cream.

Throughout the day, we watched world-class tennis and were amazed by the incredible skill, speed, and determination shown by the players. We witnessed Dabrowski and Stefani beat Aoyama and Liang in the Ladies’ Doubles followed by Britain’s Alfie Hewett beating Gustavo Fernandez in the Gentleman’s Wheelchair Singles. The excitement inside The Number 1 Court was unforgettable, with every point greeted by enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

In addition to the tennis, we explored the Wimbledon grounds, visited the various courts, and learned more about the history and traditions of one of the world's oldest and most prestigious sporting events. We observed the excellent organisation of the tournament and saw the many roles carried out by officials, volunteers, ball boys and girls, grounds staff, and media teams to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Overall, our visit to Wimbledon was an unforgettable experience. Watching elite athletes perform at the highest level inspired everyone and the pupils’ behaviour for those that attended the trip was impeccable.

Pupils recently travelled to Longbridge to undertake their human geography investigation, where they collected primary data to explore patterns of urban change, regeneration and environmental quality. They demonstrated excellent enquiry skills, working collaboratively to gather reliable data and make geographical observations in a real-world setting.

They also visited Carding Mill Valley to complete their physical geography fieldwork. Despite the challenging terrain, students showed resilience and enthusiasm as they investigated river processes, measured channel characteristics and collected data to better understand how rivers shape the landscape.

Throughout both visits, our pupils represented the school exceptionally well. Their behaviour, teamwork and positive attitude were exemplary, and they approached every task with maturity and curiosity.

The experiences gained during these field trips will provide invaluable preparation for the GCSE Geography examinations, where pupils will draw upon their fieldwork knowledge and first-hand experiences to answer exam questions with confidence.

They have been selected based on a successful application, a vetting process from staff as well as an interview. 

From 50 potential candidates this was finalised.

Following cake sales and an ill-advised head shave from our staff we managed to raise over £150 pound. Thank you once again to the pupils, parents and staff who were involved with this and for giving generously - even if Mr Brennan is now regretting his choices.
