Do you have a special talent you wish to showcase at our next big live event.

You will have the chance to perform on stage in front of a live audience in Birmingham at Millennium Point in their state-of-the-art theatre on Thursday 20^th April 2022.  Whether it be singing, dancing, juggling, stand-up comedy or anything and everything in between, we want to see all your wonderful talents.

How to enter:

• Have one of your performing arts teachers record your performance (or film it yourself and email to your teacher). 
• A snippet of your performance can be submitted, please do not worry about submitting a performance in its entirety. 
• Your teacher will be able to submit your performance video to the Matrix judging panel.
• Finalists will have the opportunity to perform at our next big trust event and some school events this year. 
• Solo entries and group entries are welcome. 
• Submit your entry by 4pm on Wednesday 15^th March.  

On Thursday 16^th February, we hosted our annual Careers Fair at Turves Green Boys’ School. We invited a range of different colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers, training providers and employers to visit and talk to our pupils about the future pathways and career options. Our visitors included: Cadbury College, Halesowen College, King Edward VI College, University of Birmingham, Aston University, The Jonah Project, Heart of England Training, Access to Music, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force amongst many others. Our pupils represented the school impeccably and were keen to discuss with our visitors their future options and ask thoughtful questions. Our Careers Fair forms an integral part of our wider school careers programme and will be followed by KS3 University trips in March and our Year 10 Careers Week in the Summer term amongst other events.

Safer Internet Day is held every February in over 170 different countries. The goal of Safer Internet Day is to call on people across the world to work together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, but especially for young people. In the UK, the UK Safer Internet Centre run a campaign especially for the day which aims to start a national conversation about using technology safely and positively. 

Last year over half of children and young people in the UK heard about the campaign, but it also involves and influences government, charities, police forces and tech companies including social media and gaming platforms. 

This Safer Internet Day asks everyone to make space for conversations about life online, especially with young people.

That’s why this year, the theme for Safer Internet Day is: 

Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online 

To help raise further awareness of the importance of keeping safe online, pupils in all year groups have written their own pledges about how they will keep safe online.    

So, this Safer Internet Day we are challenging everyone to talk about it. 

Talk to your friends. Talk to the adults you know and trust. 

Most importantly, tell them if something is worrying you. It’s never too late to share an online problem and get help and support that can make things better.

On Wednesday 14th December Year 8 visited the University of Birmingham to attend their Christmas lecture. We learnt about the engineering of Christmas presents including 3D printing a Christmas tree, taking 3D photos of Groot using lasers, vacuum formatting to make chocolate moulds and everyone’s highlight – met a robot reindeer! Thank you to all students for representing the high standards of Turves Green Boys’ School while visiting the University

Once again, this year, year 10 Hospitality and Catering pupils made afternoon tea for some of the elderly residents of Turves Green.

On Thursday 15th December, 16 year 10 pupils produced a variety of sweet and savoury items for a Christmas picnic box, this included, homemade sausage rolls, quiche, sandwiches, cakes and a selection of truffles. The boxes also contained a Christmas card from the pupils.

The festive Christmas boxes were taken to the Baptist Church at Longbridge for distribution to the elderly over the festive period.

Well Done, Year 10

Pupils at Turves Green Boys’ School certainly gave competitors from Britain’s got Talent a run for their money on Wednesday 14th December, as they showcased their vast array of talent in our Talent Show.

Pupils had auditioned at the start of November and then dedicated their own time to practise and rehearse after school. Pupils showed, not only their amazing talent, but worked together as a team to put the show on.  This included pupils who not only performed, but worked the back-stage area.

Pupils from some of our local primary schools came along in the afternoon to enjoy a matinee performance, many singing and dancing along.  In our evening performance,  friends and family were wowed by the school band, musicians, singers, dancers, juggling, and even a pupil solving 3 puzzle cubes in one minute!

The show finished with the school band’s rendition of Last Christmas; definitely enough to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Our judges selected the school choir as the overall winner, with their moving version of ‘Hallelujah’.

Turves Green Boys’ School have been celebrating the achievements of a number of our staff. Whatever role they have to play in the smooth operation of the school all of our staff do a fantastic job to make the Turves Green Boys’ vision a reality. From the amazing work of the site team, catering staff and admin department to the teachers in the classroom delivering on that promise for high quality education. We really couldn’t do it without the diligence, support and determination from all of our team who work tirelessly, continuingly looking for ways to adapt and develop to ensure they deliver the very best in whatever job they do.

To mark this the Matrix Academy Trust have recognised the achievements of a number of our staff across the year. Whilst it would be true to say all of our team deserve awards of some description and we are immensely proud of all, these individuals have stood out particularly as helping to make Turves Green Boys’ what it is today. Turves Green wouldn’t be Turves Green without each and every one of these members and the rest of the staff body. We thank you for all of your support as Turves Green Boys’ stakeholders throughout this year and invite you to wish our staff a huge Well Done for an extremely successful 2022!

Dance students from across the Matrix Academy Trust came together on Monday 21^st November at Turves Green Boys School to perform in a collaborative project. Each school was assigned a section of ‘Celebrate’ by Pitbull to choreograph and perform, before all coming together as one to learn and perform the final section. The event saw over 100 students come together and share their passion for dance. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of performing in front of others and making new friends. The overall performance shows the motivation and commitment that these students have for the subject.

After securing a STEM grant from the Millennium Point Trust, on the 1^st of December, members of our year 8 STEM club went to Millennium Point to deliver a presentation on their project to research, design and make something to use in the local community.  The pupils had decided to make outdoor tables for the local retirement complex in Turves Green.  They produced and delivered a presentation to the CEO of the Millennium Point Trust, explaining the process and showcasing the finished products. Everyone was incredibly impressed with the hard work the pupils had put into the project.  

 Well done to all of the pupils involved! 

On a blustery autumn morning, over one hundred cadets and staff from four of our schools braved the high winds and cold to pay their respects to those who have given the most to our communities and country within the armed forces and emergency services. At this time, we also remembered those innocent civilians who lost their lives in the crossfire of conflict.

This year, our Armistice Day parade was held at Barr Beacon School in Walsall and was attended by the Headteachers from Barr Beacon School, Bloxwich Academy, Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School, Etone College and Turves Green Boys’ School. Major (Ret) Simon Cuthbert of the West Midlands Cadet Expansion Programme attended as the inspecting officer, and our CEO Ms Lynsey Draycott was also in attendance. It was a proud moment for all of the cadets. 

The parade was commanded by Flt Lt Muller. Ms Broome of Barr Beacon School (a Veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq) conducted The Act of Remembrance. All of the cadets and staff marked the two minutes silence before Maj Cuthbert addressed the parade about the importance of remembrance and how smart all of the cadets looked whilst on parade.
