Parents and prospective pupils received a mini lesson on ordering French from Madame Liguori and were then greeted by the boys who took their food orders. A huge thank you to the parents and prospective pupils who joined in the fun and ordered food in French from our menu. We had a fantastic evening and look forward to seeing you in the future!

Instrumental lessons are back and bigger than ever this academic year. Due to the amazing success with the students last year, we have been able to increase the hours, allowing more students to learn and develop their musical skills. The boys who applied and have been successful have loved getting back into their instruments. O.Perrett and J.Welds have really enjoyed learning new songs this week, including “Under the Sea” from ‘The Little Mermaid’. S.Hardy, J.Saunders and J.Farrell have been working on BTEC music work and choosing skills to develop each week.

Unfortunately, spaces are now filled. However, if you would like to be added to the waitlist please speak to Miss Harrison, who will add you to the appropriate list.

The science team, along with support from Mrs Bacciochi, have been devising ways to aid pupils in enjoying reading non-fiction materials. Outside of each lab there is a different article, aimed at KS3 outside C1, C5 and C6 and KS4 outside C2, C3 and C4.

Each scientific article links to a topic being covered this half term and may prove useful to their studies. The art of reading scientific articles opens up so many doors to not just science literacy, but all literacy. If you like the look of an article and want to read more than what you are able to in the corridors, you can find them on SatchelOne under your flexible tasks!

Also, keep a look out for our spotlight scientists between C3 and C4, every couple of weeks they will be changing. Some names you might know, some you might not, but all of their work is important and deserve a special mention.

Pupils in year 7 are starting the Fresh Start programme to improve their reading speed and build confidence in reading and writing using levelled fiction and non-fiction texts. Kieran H is looking forward to looking at the football texts. Pupils especially enjoy reading the speed words against the clock!  Logan H, Yamin H, Mohammed S, Kieran H

On Thursday 14^th September, our Year 11 Geography pupils visited Carding Mill Valley as part of their physical fieldwork visit. Our pupils represented the school impeccably throughout the visit, gathering useful data and practising their fieldwork skills. Our pupils enjoyed the visit and their spirits were certainly not dampened by the wet weather conditions. The highlight for many of our pupils involved making it up to the waterfall, which involved a short hike over some difficult terrain.

Alongside our in-school careers programme, some of our pupils have also undertaken external work experience during the school holidays. We aim to provide experience of the workplace in various forms for our pupils within school, most notably during our Careers Week in Year 10. However, we also provide support for external work experience for some of our pupils who are keen to gain extra experience of the workplace. One exemplary pupil is Charlie B in Year 10. Over the summer holidays, Charlie completed work experience at Dudley Magistrates Court, he said:

“During the summer holidays, I spent a week at Dudley Magistrates Court for some work experience. I really enjoyed my experience there as it opened my mind to possibilities of law in my future career. I sat next to the legal advisor in court for many cases such as trials, NGAP (Not Guilty Anticipated Pleas), GAP (Guilty anticipated pleas), statutory declarations and warrants being signed by judges took place. The overall experience was interesting and I was welcomed by kind and helpful people that were keen to teach me lots about their field of work. Being inside a work environment was also interesting. Overall, I’m glad and thankful that I was offered this experience and would love to do this, or something like this again.”
