TGBS School Musical - Alfie (Annie)

In the summer term the Boys at Turves Green Boys' School captured the heartwarming and optimistic spirit of Alfie The Musical , with its famous story of a young orphans journey from a bleak orphanage to a life of hope and love. The audiences loved the lively group numbers such as "It's the Hard-Knock Life" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," alongside powerful solo performances like "Tomorrow."

The creativity, hard work, and dedication of the students and staff in putting together such a performance made this production memorable. The energy from the ensemble cast, the emotional depth of the lead actors with Hannigan, in particular, a scene-stealer with his over-the-top disdain for the orphans and hilarious antics offered a truly special theatrical experience.

The Creative Arts department are already in discussions of what our next TGBS Summer School Musical will be!

But before that look out for more information on our Christmas Talent Show

We're Green

Turves Green Boys School has officially achieved Green Flag status!

Our eco-committee members have been working tirelessly to make Turves Greener and the assessors for the Green Flag award were impressed by all their ideas and how much they have changed the school already. The assessors commented that they cannot wait to see updates this year on projects the pupils began last academic year but were unable to complete. As eco-coordinator for TGBS, I could not be prouder and I am grateful to all the support the Senior Leadership Team and Maintenance Team have provided. Team Turves has done it again!

Keep your eye out for updates this year as we enter various competitions and complete a whole host of tasks. It’s going to be a fun one!

Art Club

Art Club has been busy creating pieces inspired by the work of Olly Howe @ollyhowe.com.  The students have used a variety of techniques and developing lots of different skills; tonal drawing, portraiture, collage, stencilling, painting and watercolour washes.  The students chose a person who inspired them, created a tonal drawing, then developed a series of images that relate to their figure exploding out of their head.  Luke (yr 7) chose Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, the owner of Lego, to create this spectacular final piece.  Fantastic work Luke!!!

Charity Head Shave

Austin House Charity Head Shave Raises £400 for School Charities

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our recent charity head shave event, which raised an impressive £400 for our school charities. This initiative was met with overwhelming support and generosity, particularly from our students, who went above and beyond to contribute to this meaningful cause. Mr Sidhu was an impressive barber despite a brief bit of tutoring from Miss Mansell.

Community Effort

The event would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated staff, parents, and the wider school community. Your donations and encouragement played a crucial role in the success of this fundraiser. We are deeply grateful for your involvement and generosity.

We are incredibly proud of our students and the entire Turves Green Boys community for their contributions to this event. Your generosity and commitment to helping others reflect the values we strive to instil in our students. We look forward to organising more such events in the future, continuing to support worthy causes and making a difference in our community.

Thank you once again for your support and participation. Together, we are making a positive impact.

Futbol Lingo Event

We are very honoured to welcome Pierce Kiembi to Turves Green Boys’ School this week. Pierce is a UEFA qualified coach and the co-director of Fútbol Lingo. Fútbol Lingo is an app which helps players from other countries to learn languages that will help them in their careers. Pierce speaks French, German, Lingala, Spanish and English. Pierce has been working with Year 9 and 10 pupils this week. He gave a talk on the importance of languages in the world of football and explained how being bilingual can help in all areas of the football world. After the talk, boys were given a practical coaching session in French, to help them understand the key language terms needed to succeed. Well done to everyone who took part. A special mention goes to C Zammit in Year 10 for his high level of engagement throughout the talk. Well done!

Maiden Matrix Cricket Fixture

On Thursday 12th July, a team of 7 Turves Green Boys’ pupils visited Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School for their first cricket fixture. Our pupils have been working hard in the nets and were keen to test themselves in a competitive cricket fixture against our local Matrix school, Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School. The Turves Green Boys batted first and posted a very respectable 95/6 off their 10 overs, special mention to our last minute call ups Khizar K. and Fayed Q. who put on a 36 run last wicket partnership.

On the whole, our boys bowled well with special mention to our openers Mikey W. and Azan W., who’s pace and accuracy caused an array of problems of the DEC batsmen. It was a close match but DEC eventually ran out winners, reaching their total 96/2 with 6 balls to spare. It was clear their experience in the indoor format and excellent communication when running between the wickets made the difference. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the game and I have no doubt will go from strength to strength in their respective cricket leagues next year!

Local poet 'Spoz' visit and workshop

On Tuesday 9th July, we invited our local poet Giovanni Esposito aka ‘Spoz’ to perform and create some spoken word poetry with our year 7, 8 and 10s.

Each year group is currently studying poetry in English. As part of our endeavours to provide enriching experiences for all pupils, we wanted our boys to experience poetry beyond the curriculum.

Each year group listened to him perform and were invited to create some of their own raps. Considering rhyme and vocabulary in a different mode allowed them to extend their learning beyond the classroom in an interactive and fun way.A selection of our Reading Ambassadors and pupils who have read two or more of our recommended 16 by 16 books were invited a reward workshop with Spoz to hone their skills further. The best performances received a signed copy of the poet’s book.

Year 11 Leaving Celebration

On the 3rd of July we welcomed back our Year 11s to celebrate their 5 years at TGBS. Unfortunately, the long awaited Lomas Football tournament was rained off but the boys took to the sports hall to enjoy the array of inflatables.

They had their final favourite lunch ahead of their leavers assembly. They were treated to some of their best moments during their time at Turves, world events over the last 5 years and a solo performance from D Robson, ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele and ‘Sweet Caroline’, of course they all joined in. Who would have though Y11 were such huge Adele fans?!

Finally, the afternoon saw some of them playing football on the astro turf and more inflatable battles. It was a pleasure to host the for the day and we wish them all the best.

Build a model Solar System

In the year 7 Earth topic, the students have been learning all about the night sky and the Solar system where both artificial and natural satellites amongst other celestial objects can be found! Models are used all the time within science lessons to contextualise the learning and for this particular homework linked to their Earth topic the students were asked to design their very own model of the solar system! Needless to say, the students were very creative within their designs with several winners selected (Logan, Mason, Matthew, Jay, George, Jamie and Luca) to win a sweet treat that was out of this world for going above and beyond the design brief!
